Bloom & Mary O

[No.2] Easily she adored

[No.3] how the pretty light plays

There’s something familiar about the delicate opening of a flower to a human life. This collection was inspired by a handful of poignant sentence from poet, Mary Oliver.

As she describes their ‘kiss' on blooming and bursting to life to the familiarity felt in humans. In ‘I Know Someone’ she referred to it as a sad thing that they couldn’t experience the kissing of lips, unlike humans, but her words prompted me to reframe the idea and wonder what a sweet experience it must be to live a life where you get to kiss the air.

Along with their wildness, empowerment and self belief, her words have also been borrowed to encapsulate these feelings in the other paintings of the collection.
